Legion Act Passes Senate

By unanimous consent on June 11 legislation expanding eligibility for membership in The American Legion passed the United States Senate. The legislation, S. 504, would open eligibility to anyone who served honorably after December 7, 1941 or who continues to serve honorably.

The legislation now goes to the House of Representatives for their action. You can contact your representative to urge passage though the Legislation Action Center. This legislation recognizes that more than 1,600 Americans have been killed or injured in the military during periods that are currently not considered wartime. This legislation is the first step to getting those periods declared wartime for benefits.
