Iowans Elected to National Leadership

Iowa’s delegation at the 2019 National Convention in Indianapolis witnessed an event unprecedented in the history of our great Department, the election of Iowans to leadership positions in The American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary at the same convention. Nicole Clapp of Ehrig-McTurk Unit #127 in Gladbrook was elected National President and Bruce Feuerbach of Merkel-Bockholt Post #107 in Keystone was elected National Vice-Commander. They will both serve through the 2020 convention.

National President Clapp gave her acceptance speech standing behind a row of poppies, that flower being the reason she joined the Auxiliary 44 years ago, to help distribute those poppies. She outlined her goals for the coming year during that speech.National Vice-Commander Feuerbach was installed along with the other four Vice-Commanders during the closing session of the 2019 convention. The other Vice-Commanders hail from Massachusetts, Kentucky, Missouri and Oregon. Bruce’s area of responsibility will be North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Minnesota as well as Iowa. He will visit each state for an official visit as well as a membership tour.

President Clapp is serving during the centennial year of the American Legion Auxiliary and will lead the ALA during that celebration. Along with her duties and visits to the various Departments in the next year, she will preside over the 2020 National Convention in Louisville.
