The Department of Iowa regrets to announce the death of Department Finance Officer Ken Danilson.

Ken passed away Saturday, March 12, 2022. Visitation will be March 17 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the United Methodist Church, 108 West 5th Street, Woodward. Funeral Services will be March 18 at 10:30 am at the United Methodist Church in Woodward. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery, 315th Street in Cass township following services.

Memorials should be sent to Laurens C. Shull-American Legion Post #211, 1281 300th Street, Woodward, IA 50276.

Ken served in the United States Marine Corps in the Vietnam War.  He was Paid Up for Life member of Laurens C. Shull American Legion Post #211 in Woodward with 52 years of continuous membership.

Ken served The American Legion in many positions on the post, department, and national levels.  He served as Post Adjutant from 1993-2012.  Ken served 38 years as Department Finance Officer from 1985 to present.  He also served on the National Finance Commission for 28 years from 1988-2015, including 18 years as Chairman from 1998-2015.  Ken was the initial Chairman of the National Marketing Commission from 2015-2018.

Other positions held include American Legion of Iowa Boys State Board, Boys State counselor, Boys Nation counselor, Department Convention Commission, Department Strategic Planning Committee, and Department Marketing Committee.

Ken held numerous other positions within The American Legion, but the most impactful position he held was that of mentor and friend to countless Legionnaires for over five decades.
