Veterans Day at the Capitol - January 20, 2016

Legionnaires and other veterans from all across Iowa will gather at the Capitol on January 21st to speak with their Senators and Representatives about the issues confronting veterans and military members in Iowa. There will be an orientation meeting at Department Headquarters at 9:00 a.m. that morning. From there, Legion family members will proceed to the Capitol for a special program at 10 a.m. in the Capitol Rotunda, and visit with their legislators.

If you cannot participate at the Capitol that day, contact your Senator and Representative and send them a copy of the Iowa American Legion legislative priorities. Every Senator and every Representative need to hear from their veteran constituents.

Legislative Day

The American Legion's Legislative Program

The American Legion maintains a fully staffed office in Washington, DC to represent veterans in Congress on all legislation concerning veterans and their families.

Additionally, the Department of Iowa has a Legislative Commission to serve as a “watchdog” on all legislation, Federal and State, that affects veterans or The American Legion mandates and programs.
