Veterans Day at the Capitol - January 22, 2014
other veterans from all across Iowa will gather at the Capitol on January 22 to
speak with their Senators and Representatives about the issues confronting
veterans and military members in Iowa. There will be an orientation meeting at
Department Headquarters at 8:00 am that morning. From there, Legion family
members will proceed to the Capitol for a special program and visit with their
Governor Branstad has initiated the Home Base Iowa program to attract newly discharged troops to return to Iowa. That program aligns with many of the positions of the Iowa American Legion. Click the link below for a list of the legislative priorities and the event schedule.
The American Legion's Legislative Program
The American Legion maintains a fully staffed office in Washington, DC to represent veterans in Congress on all legislation concerning veterans and their families.
Additionally, the Department of Iowa has a Legislative Commission to serve as a “watchdog” on all legislation, Federal and State, that affects veterans or The American Legion mandates and programs.
