APPLICATION PROCEDURE
1. Applications to be submitted by first class mail no later
than April 15th (postmarked) of each calendar year. This date will be strictly
followed, any applications postmarked after the 15th will not be considered.

2. The original and 16 (sixteen) photocopies, not more than three (3) pages
single spaced, are to be submitted. (Please do not send extra pamphlets or pages
with pictures)
3. The application shall include:
A. Name of institution and/or researcher
B. Address and phone number
C. Objective of project
D. Description of project
E. Dates of proposed grant period
F. Amount requested with detailed budget
G. Name, title and address of supervisor
H. Proper certification if project involves animal or human subjects
I. Approval of project supervisor or other appropriate authority
J. To whom check is to be issued and to whom it should be mailed
AMERICAN LEGION OF IOWA FOUNDATION REGULATIONS
1. Application for funds:
A. Funds may be requested for support for one year or a single project. Renewal
applications for succeeding years will be accepted and considered in competition
with new applications.
B. Applications to be submitted in a form as outlined and to be limited to three
(3) single spaced pages.
C. Applications will be reviewed by the Board of Directors of the Foundation.
The Board will have final determination in making the awards or grants.
D. If project involves the use of animal subjects, the institution must certify
that the research will conform with the provisions of the Animal Welfare Act (PL
89-544 and PL 89-91) and such other regulations or laws as promulgated by the
State of Iowa and/or United States Government.
2. No monies will be granted in research projects for equipment of a permanent
nature.
3. All grants or awards will be made to the institution, not an individual. If
required by the applicant institution, indirect (administrative) costs not to
exceed 10% of the direct costs will be allowed. The indirect costs must be a
line item in the application.
4. Applications must be submitted by first class mail postmarked no later than
April 15th of each year.
5. Awards will be announced following their selection at the Annual Foundation
Meeting which is held sometime in the month of May.
6. Awards will be presented at the annual American Legion of Iowa Department
Convention usually held in July of each year. Convention attendance by the
awardees is mandatory if the grant is $1000 or more.
7. At the conclusion of the project, awardees are required to submit to the
Foundation a 300 word non-technical summary of the project and its significance.
8. In all publications of research, treatises, thesis, etc., appropriate credit
is to be given to the Foundation.
9. For projects of a permanent nature, appropriate credit is to be given to the
Foundation (plaque or plate attached to the project in a highly visible
location).
10. Home town newspaper: include name, address, and phone number. Please include
any other media outlets that cover your home town.
