“Still Serving America” is the motto of The American Legion.  The American Legion is composed of veterans who continue their service to America by still serving in their communities.

Donations and planned giving from your estate to The American Legion can be your contribution to help continue the work of our organization for years to come.

The American Legion is tax exempt under Section 501(c)(19) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954, as amended.

Please consider all of the following when making your charitable donations and when planning your estate:

American Legion of Iowa - Donations to The American Legion of Iowa General Fund will provide funding for a variety of programs and services available to the veterans and youth of Iowa.

For more information on these programs, visit Youth Programs or Support Programs on our website.

American Legion "Hawkeye" Boys State - Boys State is a weeklong "Hands-On" experience in the operation of the democratic form of government, the organization of political parties, and the relationship of one to the other in shaping Iowa government. Through the Boys State objective of "learning by doing", young men will learn more about city, county and state government in one week than they would in an entire semester of high school.

The National Emergency Fund - The American Legion National Emergency Fund was established in 1989 to be used to meet the needs of Posts or an individual member of the Legion family (Legion, Auxiliary or SAL) in areas stricken by natural disasters. Since disasters are not restricted to boundaries and can strike anytime or anywhere, the National Emergency Fund is ongoing so the Legion will be prepared to address future emergencies as they arise.

Child Welfare Foundation - Though created by The American Legion in 1954, the American Legion Child Welfare Foundation, Inc. is a separate 501 (c) 3 corporation.  Our foremost philanthropic priority is to provide other nonprofit organizations with a means to educate the public about the needs of children across this nation.

American Legacy Scholarship Fund - As an unfortunate consequence of Operation Iraqi Freedom and America’s war on terror, many children of our active-duty military personnel are now members of single-parent families. In most cases, this also means their chances to attend college have greatly diminished. Children of military personnel killed on active duty are entitled to receive money toward a college education. But it’s not enough.

We are raising funds to ensure that higher education will be a reality for these families. Providing for the children our military personnel left behind is our civic duty. An education is a powerful way to show our thanks. That is why we have established the American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund.

American Legion Endowment Fund - Contributions to the Endowment Fund go into a trust that is administered by the Endowment Fund Corporation. The Corporation, whose members are selected by the National Executive Committee of The American Legion, takes great care to see that these gifts are wisely invested.

Income from fund investments is then passed on to the Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation and Child Welfare programs of The American Legion National Organization, and channeled through them to state and local programs.
